History Lessons: The Lesson from Pearl Harbor?

Don't ever let your guard down.

Today, December 7, 2011, marks 70 years since the attack on Pearl Harbor.  As we look back on it, the main reason it was so devastating was because all the warning signs had been ignored.  There was no lacking in the military's ability or firepower to face the impending threat, they simply did not have enough eyes and ears on the lookout to heed the warnings.  And the warnings were there, alright.  Its just that no one paid any attention paid to them.

The lesson from Pearl Harbor?  Always keep your guard up and heed the warnings.  Like this attack, Satan is always prowling around us to catch us off guard and he will use any means necessary to weaken your stronghold.  God gives us promptings, or nudges, that cause us to have feelings or impressions that we should do or not do something.  Those come directly from the Spirit of the Lord and are designed to keep us from danger and destruction if, if we listen to their counsel.

President Dwight D. Eisenhower said it best,

"Our real problem then, is not our strength today, it is rather the vital necessity of action today to ensure our strength tomorrow.

That is something I have written in the back of my Book of Mormon to always remind me that I can never let my guard down, regardless of how comfortable or good the times may be, and heed the Spirit's guidance.  Jesus Christ told us that he prayed to the Father that he would give us the Holy Ghost.  If it was important enough for Christ to ask his Father to give us that Spirit of warning, then we should not take its promptings lightly.  It is vital that we heed every whisper.

So, don't ever let your guard down.  Listen to the Spirit's voice and stay safe.
