What Is Truth? And Who Decides It?

”sportsRecently I asked a question to a number of individuals about who they thought was the best player in a few popular sports.  The question was worded as this:

"Who is the best player ever (past or present) in the sports of basketball, baseball, and football?"

While thinking about their answers some stated, prior to answering, "that their choices were based on their opinion", while others just simply stated their answers.

Here are some of the responses I received:

Basketball - Michael Jordan, Earvin "Magic" Johnson Jr., and Wilt Chamberlain

Baseball - Babe Ruth, Barry Bonds, and Hank Aaron

Football - Steve Young, Jerry Rice, and Walter Payton, and Dan Marino

Out of the ten or so people I asked, many gave the same response as others did while others named different athletes.  The last question proved to be more difficult to provide an answer to then others.  Although some gave a response, others choose not to name one saying "that it was too hard to name a best player because every position is different".

The survey I conducted, despite how small it was, was aimed at determining who the best player was in the sports of basketball, baseball, and football.  So, who is the best player?  Can there even be a best player?  If so, who is to determine such results?  Are the people I asked even qualified to do so?  If not, what makes a person qualified and who determines that?

How about one more question,  isn't this all based on our own opinion?

When it comes to answering question's like these, we make them based upon our own experiences, knowledge, preferences, and interests.  Whether its choosing what we are going to wear, deciding what to eat, or choosing who the best player in a sport, its all based on our own opinion on the matter.

”tellCan this apply to religion?

Jesus Christ, in response to some agitators that said he was breaking religious law by picking corn to feed his disciples and himself on the Sabbath ( a day set apart for worship), said this:

"The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath" (Mark 2:27)

Similarly, man did not make God, but God made man.  When we want to find Him and His truth, however it may be or appear to us, we have to go seeking after it with an open heart and mind.  No matter how hard we try to push the matter, our opinion, if it is not right, will not change what is true with God.  Therefore, it is of upmost importance to become familiar with the opinion of God, seeing how it is the only just and true opinion in existence.
